Swim Rules

  • Bright colored swim caps must be worn.
  • Swimmers will go out in waves of 25.
  • Land start. You may walk as long as you like.
  • Swim to the left of the buoys going out and on return.
  • Wet suits may be worn.
  • Splits will be given for all three events so please yell out your numbers as you come out of the water.
  • You will be disqualified if a lifeguard has to assist you to the shoreline.
  • Waves start every two minutes.
  • There is a 10 minute break between the long and short course start to allow for the movement of the swim rope.

Bike Rules

  • No drafting whatsoever. The bike patrol will call it and a 2 minute penalty will be issued.
  • Only participants are allowed in transition area.
  • You must walk the bike out of the transition area, dismount and walk when returning.
  • Helmets must be worn/snapped on before leaving the transition area.
  • The use of iPods/radios of any kind on the course is discouraged for your safety.

Relay Rules

  • Hand off is at bike rack number in the transition area.
  • All three entrants have to be marked on arm and leg.
  • Only the runner wears the bib number. 
  • Timing chip is passed on to each participant.
  • Must stay in your own spot in the transition area.
  • Do not sit on or move any other participants’ equipment.

Run Rules

  • Bib number must be visibly worn when crossing the finish line

Inclement Weather Delay or Cancellation Policy

This event could be delayed by severe weather (i.e. fog or lightening). The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department will advise the Board Chairman of weather that could delay or cancel the event for the safety of the participants, volunteers and local traffic. That decision would be announced on site over the loud speaker, on Lakes 92.7, the event announcer and through Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) operators to the people on the course.

 

The only reason the event would be delayed or cancelled is for your safety or civil emergency. There will be no refunds for cancellation of the event. Registration gift will be mailed if not picked up.

What is the start time of the race?
Waupaca Area Triathlon: 7:00 a.m.
Waupaca Kids Triathlon: 6:00 p.m.

How do I register?
A registration link to the active.com web site will be posted on the triathlon home page and also on the Register page. You may print a registration form and mail in. All mail must reach us no later than noon on August 20th. Registrations accepted until the race is full or 8:00 p.m. August 18th. Register early as we expect the race to reach capacity early. Absolutely no race day registrations accepted.

I can’t race, can I get a refund?
No refunds, no exceptions. You may transfer your entry to another athlete before August 18, 2023. You are responsible for any exchanges in fees.

Are bike checks mandatory?
We do not have bike checks. You are responsible for bike to be in good shape for the race.

Can I leave my bike in the transition area overnight?
We do have minimum security in the park over-nite. You can leave your bike at your own risk.

Can I change my race division?
Once registered you can only make changes if the divisions are not filled.

Can someone else pickup my packet and timing chip?
No. You must pickup your own packet at registration and sign the waiver form.

When is packet pickup?
Packets can be picked up at South Park at the Registration tent Friday, August 16th from noon until 8:00 p.m. and again Saturday, August 17th 5:30 – 6:45 a.m.

Where do I get my timing chip?
Timing chips will be included in your packet. Your chip number is the same as your bib number. Do not exchange chips with anyone else or you will be disqualified.

If my registration is wrong, what can I do?
You must email lynn@waupacaareachamber.com or call 715-258-7343 in order to have your registration information corrected. If after August 15th, you must report to the registration table at check-in to make corrections.

Are swim caps required?
Swim caps are required. You may bring your own or purchase one at the registration area. Caps are not included in your packet.

Are helmets required?
Yes. Helmets are required on the bike course.

Can I wear a wet suit?
Wet suits are not required but can be worn if you choose to.

What is the water temperature?
The average water temperature on race day is 78°.

What time do awards start?
10:00 a.m. approx. We will continue to cheer on athletes that are finishing the race.

If I am unable to stay for awards, can I have it mailed to me?
Yes. You must send a check for $10.00 payable to Waupaca Area Triathlon and send to Waupaca Area Triathlon, 315 S. Main St., Waupaca WI 54981 or call with charge information.

What can I do if I lost my chip or left it at the hotel?
If left in the hotel go back and get it. Stop at registration for spare chips.
